Mob Violence is Not Part of the Uprising—It Came After

It is crucial to clarify one thing from the outset: the recent incidents of "mob justice" or "mob violence" occurred after the mass uprising. They were never part of the movement, nor do they represent its spirit. The mass uprising was driven by a clear political objective, overwhelming public support, and specific demands. In contrast, a "mob" is a leaderless, unaccountable, and lawless crowd.
Let us be clear—no one is labeling the uprising itself as a "mob." The uprising stands as a historic event in its own right. To conflate the two is to distort both history and reality.
However, we must also acknowledge that the mobs formed in the post-uprising period cannot be justified as an "extension" or "continuation" of the revolution. Crime, violence, or looting do not become legitimate simply by invoking the name of a revolution.
While a mass uprising is a struggle to transform and rebuild the state, mob violence creates a state of lawlessness. Conflating the two causes double-edged damage: it tarnishes the moral authority of the uprising and provides a shield for mob violence to remain hidden.

প্রথমেই বিষয়টা পরিষ্কার করা দরকার—সাম্প্রতিক যেসব ‘মব’ ঘটনা ঘটেছে, সেগুলো গণঅভ্যুত্থানের পরে। এগুলো কোনোভাবেই গণঅভ্যুত্থানের অংশ ছিল না, অংশও নয়। গণঅভ্যুত্থান হয়েছে একটি রাজনৈতিক লক্ষ্য, গণসমর্থন ও স্পষ্ট দাবিকে কেন্দ্র করে। আর মব হলো লক্ষ্যহীন, দায়হীন ও আইনবহির্ভূত ভিড়।
এখানে আরেকটা বিষয়ও পরিষ্কার—কেউ গণঅভ্যুত্থানকে মব বলছে না। গণঅভ্যুত্থান তার জায়গায় গণঅভ্যুত্থানই। সেটাকে মবের সঙ্গে গুলিয়ে ফেলা ইতিহাস ও বাস্তবতার বিকৃতি।
কিন্তু একইভাবে এটাও মানতে হবে—অভ্যুত্থান–পরবর্তী সময়ে যেসব মব তৈরি হয়েছে, তাদেরকে ‘অভ্যুত্থানের অংশ’ বা ‘অভ্যুত্থানের ধারাবাহিকতা’ বলে চালিয়ে দেওয়া যাবে না। কোনো অপরাধ, সহিংসতা বা লুটপাট বিপ্লবের নাম নিলেই বৈধ হয়ে যায় না।

মব রাষ্ট্রহীনতা তৈরি করে।
একটাকে অন্যটার সঙ্গে গুলিয়ে ফেললে ক্ষতি দু’দিকেই—গণঅভ্যুত্থানের নৈতিকতা নষ্ট হয়, আর মব সহিংসতা আড়াল পায়।
